This Is a Story of a Lens That Can't Take Pictures

I came across this "lens" in a magazine. Or perhaps it was on the internet. Either way, it ended up pinned onto one of my Pinterest boards and then I shared it on Facebook.

Weeks later it was my birthday. After our family expedition to Red Robin (what? we like it! and I got a free birthday meal AND a sundae!) we came home and Pat and the kids gave me a present. This is where the strangeness began.

For some reason, Pat was particularly interested in taking my picture while I opened my gift. This is very unlike him. But I went with it.

Smiling and curious - what could possibly be so important?

As I pulled out the rectangular box from the gift bag, I saw the very top of it.

The glossy black, white and red box read Canon.

Wait, what???

Then I saw the lens specs: EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM.

Wait, what??? This can't be real. This lens is normally in the $2,500 price range.

Stupefied and shocked over such a luxurious gift...

Then the rest of the tissue paper slid away to reveal the bottom half of the box...

Collector cup.

O.M.G.

Ahhh... there it is.

And there it is.

I don't think we laughed that hard in a long time. The thing that made it so great is that I asked for it. And he still managed to surprise me!

Here is my lens by the kitchen sink. Not a normal place to keep something so valuable. Or is it?....

Here is my new lens filled with hot, steaming coffee.
Have I mentioned how strange it is to drink out of a telephoto zoom lens?
If you, too, want a cool lens mug, Photojojo is your place. They also have Nikon drinking lenses.

Cheers!
